Webb Police Dept. reports recent activity

Town of Webb Police Chief John Russell reported the following activities over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

• A Plattsburgh couple and a two-year-old child escaped injury when their vehicle was hit by a trailer carrying a sailboat on Route 28 on Friday, July 5 at approximately 4 p.m.

According to Chief Russell, Sean and Rebecca Conklin were traveling southbound when the northbound trailer being hauled by James Blasland of Liverpool, NY came loose just north of the highway department garage.

The sailboat came off the trailer and struck the vehicle, taking the car roof off, Russell said.

Chief Russell reported that the Conklins saw the sailboat coming their way and were able to duck. 

The couple and the unidentified child were transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital where they were treated for superficial wounds and  released.

No other injuries were reported and Blasland was ticketed for carrying an unsecured load.

• In other police news, a road check on Wednesday, July 3 resulted in the arrest of Scott A. Becker of Tupper Lake for aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree and criminal impersonation in the second degree.

According to Chief Russell, Becker was also wanted in the Utica area for criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was remanded at the Herkimer County Correc-tional Facility in lieu of bail.

• In the early morning hours of Thursday, July 4, Town of Webb Police personnel along with the Old Forge Fire Department responded to a one car rollover on the Petrie Road.

Nathanial Dimick was arrested for driving while ability impaired, driving without a license and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, said Russell.

• On Thursday, July 4 a Webb police officer on bicycle patrol issued a ticket to Eric Eckhard of Lee Center for unlawful possession of marijuana.

Ryan P. Drake, also of Lee Center, who was in the car with Eckhard, was arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree.

According to Chief Russell, Drake was arraigned before the Hon. Judge Jack Graham and released on his own recognizance until his court appearance on Thursday, July 11th.

• On Friday, July 5, Mark A. Bunce and Ronnie R. Evanciew, both of Taberg, were arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana said Russell.

• On Saturday, July 6th, officers from the Town of Webb Police Department arrested Cody B. Crandel of Ontario, NY for driving while intoxicated.

According to Russell, Crandel was pulled over for allowing an individual to cling to a motor vehicle. The person clinging to the vehicle was also ticketed.
