Despite a wet start to the weekend, the 4th Annual Adirondack Ice Bowl Hockey Tournament took place on Friday and Saturday, January 26 and 27.

While pucks were supposed to hit the ice at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, said Inlet Tourism Director Adele Burnett, the weather had slightly different plans.

The heavy rain delayed the games until 6 p.m. when it finally stopped raining.

Once three inches of water were pumped from the rinks, the hockey players were able to hit the ice and commence with the tournament.

“They played up until 2 a.m. to get in all of Friday’s games,” Burnett said. The 240-person tournament kicked off slightly behind schedule on Saturday morning, and then was hit hard with snowfall later in the day.

“They had to shovel six inches of snow off the rink in order to play the championship game, but they were able to do it,” said Burnett.

While all teams entered in the tournament played admirably, the Labatt Team was ultimately named the Open Division Champions, with Blokus Buzz saw taking honors as Masters Division Champions.

“In summary, everything went very smoothly despite the weather and the late start on Friday. And based on what I was hearing, hotels in the area were getting Ice Bowl fans and players, and the bars were packed on Saturday for the SU basketball game, so I’m hopeful the event was beneficial to other area businesses,” Burnett said.
