Inlet: Hockey teams battle in last weekend’s Adirondack Ice Bowl

Sub-zero air temperatures accompanied by gusty winds are enough to deter the average individual from heading outdoors for any reason, but in the hockey world such conditions are considered prime.IMG_2225*******

And that point was proven last weekend when despite the frigid temps, an estimated 3,500 hockey players and fans came to Inlet for the 6th Annual Adirondack Ice Bowl Pond Hockey Festival on Fourth Lake.

Forty-four teams from across the country competed at the event.

Ad’k Ice Bowl returning Jan. 24–27

Close to 300 hockey players are expected to take over Inlet January 24 through 27 during the annual Adirondack Ice Bowl Pond Hockey Festival.

Hockey play will take place in front of The Woods Inn on Fourth Lake and the event will also include spectator games and activities, live music, and a tournament party.

Added to this year’s roster will the an inaugural Women’s Open Division game. Registration for the Women’s Division is still open, however, open registration for the Men’s Division is now full.

Throughout the weekend teams from all over the country—and one from Mexico—will compete in three guaranteed games that will consist of two 15-minute halves and a five-minute intermission.

There will also be an tournament party dinner after Friday’s preliminary round at The Woods Inn that will include a buffet dinner, drink specials, music by Redneck Rodeo and Labatt Blue giveaways. Admission to the dinner will be $20 per person and reservations can be made by calling The Woods Inn at (315) 357-5300.

Entertainment will also be provided Saturday afternoon along with a variety of vendors. Among the vendors will be the Adirondack Distillery, offering samples of their products, and Bari Boots hockey equipment.

Live music will be provided by Molly and Jeff with Showtime performing during the Saturday night activities.

Ad’k Ice Bowl brings hockey action back to Fourth Lake

Despite a wet start to the weekend, the 4th Annual Adirondack Ice Bowl Hockey Tournament took place on Friday and Saturday, January 26 and 27.

While pucks were supposed to hit the ice at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, said Inlet Tourism Director Adele Burnett, the weather had slightly different plans.

The heavy rain delayed the games until 6 p.m. when it finally stopped raining.

Once three inches of water were pumped from the rinks, the hockey players were able to hit the ice and commence with the tournament.

“They played up until 2 a.m. to get in all of Friday’s games,” Burnett said. Continue reading
