Leona E. Smith, 85, of South Shore Road, died November 26, 2011, at her residence with her family by her side. She was born March 6, 1926 in Tupper Lake, a daughter of Edward and Lucy (Boulier) Brown, and received her education in Town of Webb schools. In May 1956 she married Rufus M. Smith. To the Editor:
I have seen Mary Brophy Moore’s ability to promote tourism, manage a company, and to develop and maintain a budget in the private sector, and I am confident that she can do the same as a Councilwoman for the Town of Webb.
The Town of Webb is a unique community. We are a geographically isolated population and therefore must be relatively self sufficient in maintaining the quality of life for our community members.
This requires an effort to maintain and develop infrastructure, recreational facilities, and services. Continue reading

Dear Editor:
The Kenmore Cottages would like to thank the Eagle Bay Fire Department for its immediate response to a 3:30 a.m. 911 call on Monday, April 11th.
Lightning had struck two trees in-between our trailer loop and the Mohawk Hotel Road. One of the trees caught on fire.
The department’s quick response and willingness to wade through the stream, the snow, and the mud to extinguish the fire in the wee hours of the morning were much appreciated.
Kudos to Pete Leszyk and the other firefighters who responded to the call!
