To the Editor:
I have seen Mary Brophy Moore’s ability to promote tourism, manage a company, and to develop and maintain a budget in the private sector, and I am confident that she can do the same as a Councilwoman for the Town of Webb.
The Town of Webb is a unique community. We are a geographically isolated population and therefore must be relatively self sufficient in maintaining the quality of life for our community members.
This requires an effort to maintain and develop infrastructure, recreational facilities, and services.
Our tourism based economy also benefits from this effort, but requires a government supported promotional effort.
All of this must be done in a cost effective manner to keep our property taxes low.
The path that creates a balance between cutting costs and investing in the future is often hard to see and even more difficult to follow.
I saw Mary Brophy Moore’s ability to balance these competing forces when she worked as a manager for ARO Adventures, our tourism based company.
Mary understands tourism. She helped ARO develop our promotional and marketing plans and worked with our customers directly as she managed our reservation staff.
Mary was also involved in designing and monitoring our budget. Her intelligence, creativity, and broad knowledge allowed her to determine how and where to invest in promotion and growth in a cost effective manner.
I believe that these abilities and skills, coupled with her integrity and work ethic, will make her a truly outstanding member of our Town Council.
