First Loaves & Fishes Luncheon set for January 28 in Old Forge

The first Loaves and Fishes Café Luncheon will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at noon at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Old Forge.

This free lunch will include an assortment of soups, sandwiches, desserts and beverages.

The elevator will be available.

Anyone needing transportation can call Beverly Meeker at (315) 369-2234.

The luncheon is co-sponsored by the organizations of St. Bartholomew’ s and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Niccolls Memorial Church and various community members.

Old Forge Library to host Poetry Writing Workshops on January 23

The Old Forge Library will hold three Poetry Instruction Workshops on Saturday, January 23.

Christine Holt will lead a workshop for Kindergarten through 6th grade students from 10:00 am till noon.

Christine is a veteran teacher and school administrator in the Inlet School District and utilizes a variety of teaching methods to captivate student’s attention.   Continue reading

Gene M. Etchie, 79, passes away

Gene M. Etchie, 79; of Fulton passed away at Oswego Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born in Syracuse, NY to the late Freeman and Eleanor (Michaud) Etchie.

Mr. Etchie was a longtime resident of Fulton until moving to Old Forge, NY where he resided for over 30 years.  Continue reading

Old Forge Library names judges for 2016 Sweetheart Dessert Contest

The Old Forge library will be celebrating Valentine’s Day with their annual Sweetheart Dessert Contest on Tuesday, February 9.

There are four categories: Youth Student, Teen Student, Adult and Master.

To enter the contest, create your favorite dessert and bring it to the library from 11am to 5 p.m. that day.

This year’s judges are David Berkstresser, Marianne Christy and Barb Getty. A reception will be held at the library at 7pm and the contest winners will be announced at 7:40 p.m.

The public is invited to stop by and enjoy all the entries from 7 to 8 p.m.

VIEW arts center announces January workshops schedule

View, a multi-arts center located in Old Forge, announces its schedule of workshops to begin in January.

There will be a basket workshop by Barbara Green on January 16th, two six-week ceramic workshops, and a six-week Fine Arts drawing workshop starting on January 27th by View’s own curator, Cory E. Card.
