VIEW arts center announces January workshops schedule

View, a multi-arts center located in Old Forge, announces its schedule of workshops to begin in January.

There will be a basket workshop by Barbara Green on January 16th, two six-week ceramic workshops, and a six-week Fine Arts drawing workshop starting on January 27th by View’s own curator, Cory E. Card.

Those interested in participating in any of these workshops should register as soon as possible at viewarts.org.

Large Tote Basket Including a Canvas Handle with Barbara Green.

In this workshop you will weave your own shopper’s tote basket. This tote is large enough to take to the market and attractive enough to carry to work with all your necessities for the day.

The basket is made with natural reed and a choice of cotton canvas handle colors.

The class will be held this Saturday, January 16th from 9am-2pm.

Hand Building: Introduction to Making Press Molds from Low Relief Tiles with Art Baird.

This six-week ceramic workshop is your opportunity to learn beginning mold-making skills that can be used for design elements in your pottery work.

Experienced artist Art Baird will bring you through the process.

Learn to create low relief tile designs in clay, utilizing plaster press molds, which can be applied to numerous ceramic objects such as vases, wall tiles, and wall hanging.

Little to no prior pottery experience is required, so come and learn the basics and join us on Mondays, from January 18th to February 22nd 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Beginner to Intermediate Wheel Thrown Pottery with Marie Imundo.

This workshop is perfect for those who have never taken a pottery class before or those who want to take their skills to the next level.

Beginners will work on building fundamental skills.

More experienced students will continue to build on those skills.

Different types of clay and properties will be explained, as well as review of equipment and tools, and basic studio etiquette.

Instruction will also include a hand built project.

All works created will be glazed and fired.

The class will be held on Mondays, from January 25th to March 7th, 6-9pm.

Space is limited to 10 students so don’t forget to register.

Learning to See: An Introduction to Drawing in Charcoal with Cory E. Card.

Utilize light and shadow and learn the fundamentals of working in detail with charcoal to sharpen both your observation and visualization skills in this Fine Arts workshop.

Fundamentals of the medium will be explored including line, form, and value, while giving focus to creating dynamic visual compositions in this six week intensive course.

This class is appropriate for the beginner to the intermediate student and will be held on Wednesdays, from January 27th-March 2nd, 6-9pm.

Registration for this workshop runs through Sunday, January 17th.
