Summer Reading Program begins at Old Forge Library, July 3

The Old Forge Library’s Summer Reading Program will be held on Thursdays throughout the month of July from noon to 1 p.m.

The program, “Fizz, Boom, Read,” encourages children to continue reading throughout the summer, and features a variety of activities for children in pre-k and up. Children kindergarten age and younger must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Registration is available by calling the library at (315) 369-6008. Last day to register for the program is July 10th.

The Summer Reading Program is supported in part by the Town of Webb Recreation Program.

June 26: Award-winning folk artist Joe Crookston to perform at View

Folk singer and master storyteller Joe Crookston will be joined by guitarist/vocalist Peter Glanville for a musical performance at VIEW on Thursday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m.

Crookston, a native of Ithaca, tours regularly in the U.S., Canada and Ireland. He plays guitar, violin, and claw hammer banjo and integrates storytelling along with his folk songs.   Continue reading →

Dye reveals catastrophic issues, no substitute for proper septic design

The Dye Testing Program is back at it again on the Chain of Lakes and Big Moose Lake. This has been a cooperative program between the Lake Associations and the town for many years.

The costs to administer the program are shared, as the benefit is felt by not just the lake-front owners, but the entire town.

The test is simple. Flush a few ounces of bright yellow or red dye down the toilet. Run water in sinks and flush many times.  Continue reading →

Shelby Egnaczyk planning for Wildlife & Fisheries Management career

Town of Webb senior, Shelby Egnaczyk, 17, moved to Old Forge seven years ago from Boonville, where she attended Adirondack Central school. IMG_9136

In the fall, she plans to attend North Country Community College (NCCC) to study Wildlife Recreation Leadership; then she says she’ll transfer to a four-year school to major in Wildlife and Fisheries Management.  Continue reading →

Dane Daiker to join Air Freight Mechanics program in fall

High School Senior, Dane Daiker, 19, has lived in Old Forge all his life, having grown up on Fourth Lake. In the fall, he plans to attend an Air Freight Mechanics program at the former Griffiss Air Base in Rome.IMG_9739

“I chose that route, because I’m good with wrenches,” he said.

It’s a short program, as well, and Dane hopes that will get him into the job market quickly. Continue reading →

Corey Down to study Construction Management at SUNY Delhi

High school senior, Corey Down, 17, has lived in Old Forge all his life and has been a student at Town of Webb since kindergarten. IMG_9741

In the fall, he plans to attend SUNY Delhi for Construction Management.

Corey said he chose that major because he loves outdoor activity, the building trade in particular. “There’s a lot of hands on learning with the career, too,” he said.  Continue reading →

Samantha Notley to study civil engineering at RPI

Town of Webb senior, Samantha Notley, 17, has lived in Old Forge her whole life.

In the fall, she is planning to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, to study Civil Engineering.

Samantha developed a special attraction for RPI, she said, when she went to visit her older brother, Mike, who had been attending school there. She fell in love with the area and the campus, she said.

“Everyone was really friendly; not just at the school, the community, too,” she said.  Continue reading →
