SBA names Adirondack Bank top small community lender for 5th straight year

Adirondack Bank has been recognized as the top small community lender in Central New York by the Small Business Association for the recently ended fiscal year 2013.

This marks the fifth consecutive year that Adirondack Bank has received this distinction.

Adirondack Bank was one of three banks identified by SBA Syracuse District Director Bernard J. Paprocki for the highest number of 7(a) approvals in their respective categories based on asset size.

Holiday season: New baskets to grace Old Forge’s Main St.

New holiday baskets will be lining Main Street, Old Forge prior to Thanksgiving and the Adirondack Christmas on Main Street celebration.

The new cone-shaped baskets will be filled with greens and poinsettias and finished with bows before being put into place sometime next week.

The greens, donated by Walt’s Tree Service, and other elements will be assembled at Mountain Greenery by owner Kate Russell, staff member Shelly Organski, and CAP-21 assistant Kristin Frymire.

Once completed, the baskets will be hung by CAP-21 Executive Director Nick Rose and and Town of Webb Publicity Director Mike Farmer.

All invited to Town of Webb’s School Band Concert, Nov. 21

The Town of Webb Senior Band, Junior Band, and Stage Band will present their first concert of the year on Thursday, November 21.

The concert, under the direction of Webb’s Instrumental Music Instructor Emily Herrmann, is titled, Americans We, and will feature works from American composers including Henry Fillmore, David Holsinger, and George Gershwin.

It will also include music on such American themes as football, Disney, and super heroes. Seventy students from grades six through 12 will be participating.

The program begins at 7 p.m in the school gymnasium. It is free of charge and all are invited to attend.

Town of Webb School Districts Board of Education meets on November 5th

The Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education held a meeting on Tuesday, November 5, at 6:30 p.m., where it took the following action. This report does not represent the board’s approved minutes.

Approved the Minutes of October 15, 2013 meeting.

Approved the Warrants and Claims.

Approved the Treasurer’s Report for September 2013.

Approved the Committee on Special Education Recommen-da-tions.

Approved the revised Board Policies:

300. – Personnel

300.01 – Instructional Personnel Ethics

302.003 – Safety of Children and Students in Contact with Conditionally or Emergency Conditionally Appointed Employees

305.01 – Evaluation of Instructional Personnel

306 –Public Officer or Employees Absent on Military Duty.

Services held for Mary Theresa Eddo Asker

Mrs. Mary Theresa Eddo Asker passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare. Mary was born in Utica, a daughter of the late Najeeb and Fatna (Saba) Eddo. She was educated in local schools and a graduate of Utica Free Academy.

On November 6, 1948, Mary was joined in marriage to Esper (Anthony) Asker. They enjoyed over forty-six loving years together until his passing on March 18, 1995.

Mrs. Asker was employed as a bookkeeper at Boss-Linco Trucking for over ten years; she then worked along with her husband at the family business, Acoustican Hearing Aids in Oneonta for many years.  Continue reading

Spring service planned for Beatrice Carmen Roberts, 91

Beatrice Carmen Roberts, 91, formerly of Kortenaer Village Apartments, passed away peacefully at Sunset Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center on November 12, 2013.

The daughter of Thomas D. Mulhearn of Utica, and Elizabeth “Betty” Longway of Turin, she was born in Utica on March 31, 1922.  Beatrice was a graduate of the Palmer Method Beauty School, and employed her skills at the Elite Beauty Shop in Utica.
