Legion Post 893 honors Veterans

The Veteran’s Day Ceremony in Old Forge was conducted on Monday, November 11 from the porch of Covey-Pashley American Legion Post 893 in Old Forge.

The gathering of spectators was welcomed by Master of Ceremonies Mike Farmer. The program included a recognition of area war

veterans and those presently serving, a three-shot volley by the rifle squad, and Taps played by legion member Lance Maly. A luncheon at the legion hall followed.

Quality of first snow sometimes a disappointment

The first great November snowfall of 1976 made its way to us one Friday night. When I woke up the next morning my woods were covered in almost eight inches of thick, white magic.

I could hardly keep my own emotions in check as I raced around the floor of my bedroom closet  searching for my mittens, hat and snow boots.

Barnstormers Club to meet November 19

The Inlet Barnstormers Snowmobile Club will meet at the Inlet Town Hall on Tuesday November 19 at 7 p.m. New members are always welcome. Refreshments will be served.

It can’t be helped. It’s everywhere, on every news channel, radio station, talk show, and of course, the internet.

O-BlahBlahCare—the biggest failure ever.

Surprised? Nope. Not me.

C’mon people, did we not see this coming? How in the world did this president not know that his Affordable Health Crap would evolve into such an embarrassing blow to his leadership skills, or lack thereof, as the case may be?

Try not to catch buck fever when sitting in a tree stand

There will be tracking snow in the morning, boys. That’s what my dad used to say, and sure enough there is some this morning. It might be a tad crunchy underfoot but you will sure know what’s been out there overnight.

It’s the kind of condition that drives many deer trackers wild. They jump for joy and follow a big deer track for the day just like a hound on a hare.

These guys sometimes run on the track when they know it’s an old one.

Then they slow down when they know it’s fresh or a deer is feeding just ahead of them.

Holiday Concert: VIEW to present Kolb Family on Saturday, Nov. 30

Rob Kolb, Lauralyn Kolb, David Kolb, and Katrina Schell, will present a Christmas concert at View’s Gould Hall on Saturday, November 30 at 3 p.m.

Known throughout the Mohawk Valley as the Kolb Family, they are acclaimed in voice and choir mastery.

Rob Kolb is Director of Choral Activities and is the Conductor Masterworks Chorale at Hamilton College.

Additionally he is a contributing author of several publications and past conductor of the Syracuse Vocal Ensemble and the Cayuga Vocal Ensemble.

Outside of his academic and college choir touring schedule, he enjoys performing with his family and delighting audiences throughout New York state, including View where they will present a program of holiday favorites. Continue reading →
