Card of Thanks

I want to thank everyone for being so wonderful to me for the past few months of my illness.

Thank you for the prayers, Mass cards, flowers, plants, the delicious meals, and for the many, many cards and visits.

What a caring community. I can’t thank everyone enough.

Just Call me Mrs. Lucky by Jan from Woodgate

From ringing phones to potties, Mr. Murphy pretty much nailed it

It’s probably safe to assume that most of us are familiar with Murphy’s Law, the old ‘If anything can go wrong, it will.’

Many say that this law was born at Edwards Air Force Base in 1949.

Edward A. Murphy was an engineer working on an Air Force Project designed to see how much deceleration a person can stand in a crash.

One day he found that a transducer was wired wrong, cursed an inept technician, and stated, ‘If there is any way to do it wrong, he’ll find it.’

How right he turned out to be, because quite frankly I am reminded constantly of Murphy.

Of course, in my world the Law is applicable in way more trivial instances.

I will share some with you:

• The bank drive-thru: Inevitably, there’s nary a soul in line until my vehicle crosses the street and enters the parking lot. Continue reading

Gary Lee’s Daybreak to Twilight

Use of assault rifles gives legitimate hunters bad name

We continue to be very dry, as does much of the country. Perhaps it’s the higher projected price of corn this fall that’s affecting the increase in gas price.

Farmers growing corn in the mid west that don’t have irrigation are hurting for sure.

Without any watering, my garden and flowers are at a standstill. My pond is down about a foot and I’m hoping for water soon.

Most of the bodies of water that I’ve been on in the last week show signs of the lowest water I’ve seen in a long time.

Streams in the area are just a trickle and the trout are looking for a spring hole to have some cold water to live in.

Some folks got a good dose of rain during the week, but with it came violent winds.

Up in the Potsdam area they had winds up to 100 mph, which did a lot of damage to power lines and travel corridors.

This storm cut across the upper part of the north country hitting Lake Placid and parts of the Champlain Valley.

The marina where my brother keeps his boat was hit with very strong winds that pushed all the docks together and caused damage to many of the boats tied up there.

Luckily his boat was on the north side of the dock system and he only lost a couple of down riggers off the side of the boat.

Many others were not so lucky as their boats were sandwiched in between the docks.

Sails were torn apart on some of the bigger sailboats.

Pond fishing has been good even with the warmer temperatures. The water is deep enough to support trout.

These fish should be on a feeding frenzy and getting nothing but bigger. Continue reading
