The Boy Malls: Wandering the aisles with a team of yankies

This is a little story about shopping. The Boy Way. At malls designed specifically for boys. We’re not talking real malls here, with a Sears on one end and a J.C. Penney on the other. We’re not chatting about grocery stores, Home Depot or Lowe’s. We’re talking strictly about true life al fresco/ outdoor Boy Malls.

The male species refers to them as scrap yards, and believe me, this is serious stuff.

Behold the day when an announcement is made: Someone’s vehicle is in disrepair.

They don’t even try to pretend they’re the slightest bit sympathetic about their friend’s dilemma—in fact quite the opposite occurs. Continue reading →

Mild winter survivor’s guilt: Worming our way to a change of seasons

Tickner qualifies for Empire Cup Final

West Tickner, a member of the Section III Championship Town of Webb School Alpine Ski Team, has qualified for the J1/J2 Empire Cup Series Finals which will be held at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid on Friday through Sunday, February 24, 25, and 26th. Tickner’s qualification is a result of his involvement outside of high school racing, through the New York State Ski Racing Association (NYSSRA) and the United States Ski Association (USSA). He will compete against 93 racers in the weekend race. Continue reading →

Poetry & Illustration entry deadline nears

The deadline for entries in the Old Forge Library’s 2012 Poetry and Illustration Contest and Exhibit is Thursday, March 1. Entries may be mailed, however, entries postmarked after March 1 will not be accepted.

The theme of this year’s contest is Mountains and Valleys. All students and adults throughout the Mid-York Library region (Herkimer, Madison and Oneida Counties) and the Town of Inlet are eligible to enter the contest. Continue reading →
