Town of Webb School Budget passes by big margin; voters send Colin Clark to board of ed.agree to shrink board in ’12

Colin Clark was elected to a five-year term on the Town of Webb UFSD board of education on Tuesday, May 17. Clark ran unopposed for the seat previously held by Jane Slack who decided against seeking reelection for the position.

Clark, an Old Forge native, resides in Old Forge with his wife, Tricia and three children, Carter Kelly, 12, and Abigail Kelly, 10-Town of Webb School students-and five-month-old Ava Clark.

For the past 16 years Clark has been employed as a school counselor.

Among the schools he has served is the Town of Webb School, where he was employed as K-12 counselor from January 2001 until August 2007.

Since then he has been employed as a counselor for grades 10-12 at Proctor High School in Utica.

As evidenced by his resume, Clark has been deeply involved and interested in school leadership, however he cites the December birth of his daughter as a motivational factor of his candidacy.

“Ava’s birth made me realize that I will no longer sit on the sidelines and hope for good things to happen. From this point forward I will work my hardest to help make our school something to be proud of,” he said.

With 20 years experience with the district, first as a student, then as an employee, and his 16 years of experience in five different school districts in the NYS public school system Clark, feels he is equipped to represent his alma mater on the school board.

“There are hundreds of topics in school administration and I have knowledge and interest in all of them. I hope to work with my fellow board members to make this the best school it can be,” he said.

Clark is currently seeking a dual degree Certificate of Advanced Study with SUNY Cortland in School Administration which he expects to complete in December 2011, following the completion of his full year internship with the Utica City School District.

Clark expressed thanks to the 297 voters who cast their votes of confidence for him on May 17, and would like to assure everyone in the school district that education and the betterment of the school will be his primary goal.

“I will never sacrifice the quality of our program and the experience for our children over solely financial reasons. My commitment is to our school and our kids,” he said.
