As 2015 ends many of us look back on the past year, and hopefully your year was as positive as CAP-21’s. The organization completed its year in its new home in the Adirondack Bank building, with a new office manager.
Incorporated in 2001, CAP-21 has emerged as a major resource for our communities, bringing over $8.2 million in investments and grants back to the region. Continue reading

The Old Forge/ Thendara Shuttle operated for a total of 64 days during the summer tourism season. Starting on June 18 and running through September 6, the OFT Shuttle provided free transportation from Van Auken’s Inne to VIEW and Hollister’s Trading Post and all points in-between, as well as four trips a day to McCauley Mountain.
Despite several press stories and weekly advertising from the Town of Webb Information Office, the Shuttle seemed to remain the best kept secret within Old Forge. The final ridership total for the 64 days was 1,557 riders, or slightly over 24 people per day. Continue reading

The Town of Inlet recently completed the installation of new carpeting at the Inlet Community/Senior Center located within the Town Hall.
CAP-21 coordinated the fund raising for this project which included support from the Inlet Young At Heart seniors, the Inlet Barnstormers Snowmobile Club, the Inlet Area Business Association, the Community Foundation, the Adirondack Foundation, the Town of Inlet and an on-line fundraising campaign through the Adirondack Gives website. The Senior Health Activities Recreation Program (SHARP) and CAP-21, along with The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc. and The Health Foundation for Western and CNY, would like to learn more about needed programs that would enable people to remain in their own communities and live as independently as possible as they age.
We want to develop these projects collaboratively, in partnership with those who are most directly affected by what goes on as they live and work in the community. Continue reading

The Old Forge Library will be the site of a workshop to gather local knowledge in support of regional recreation and tourism planning for the southern third of the Adirondack Park.
The workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, February 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the library’s Community Room and is being hosted jointly by the Great South Woods (GSW) and the Adirondack Community Trails & Lodging System (ACTLS) projects. Continue reading
