Samantha Notley, a junior at the Town of Webb School, is this year’s recipient of the Smith Book Award in recognition of her academic excellence, leadership, and concern for others. Samantha is the daughter of Mike and Wanda Notley of Old Forge.

The award was presented by local resident and Smith College alumna Carolyn Belknap, on behalf of the Mohawk Valley Smith College Club.

Smith College, located in Northampton, MA is the largest private liberal arts college for women in the U.S. A highly selective institution with an undergraduate enrollment of 2,500, Smith has been educating and preparing women for leadership since 1875.

Students plan their own academic programs, choosing from over 1,000 courses in more than 50 areas of study. Smith’s scenic 125-acre campus in New England boasts superb facilities and a student/faculty ration of 9:1.

Smith recently launched an engineering program, the first of its kind in a women’s college in the U.S. Smith students come from every state and 60 foreign countries.
