Adirondack Park Agency seeks entries for Excellence in Design Competition

The Adirondack Park Local Government Day Conference Committee invites the submission of building projects for the 2013 Adirondack Park Excellence in Design Competition.

The Adirondack Park Excellence in Design competition is an award competition intended to showcase examples of buildings in the Adirondack Park that enhance the sustainability and livability of Park communities and contribute to distinctive, attractive neighborhoods with a strong sense of place.

It is open to both public and private interests.

Three categories will be recognized: public and semi-public buildings, including institutional buildings; new residential or commercial buildings completed within the last 10 years; historic buildings, older than 50 years, renovated (in whole or in part) within the last 15 years.

The competition is open to local municipalities, businesses, consultants, individuals and non-profit organizations.

All submissions must feature existing buildings located within the Adirondack Park.

Applicants must include photos of the building, its location, a brief description of the use and how the building design exemplifies the award criteria.

To be eligible, buildings must be completely constructed and operational. Completed application forms with photos must be received by April 12.

A panel of NYS Department of State, Division of Local Government staff will judge the submissions.

Winners will be announced at the Adirondack Park Local Government Day Conference on Thursday, April 25.

Applicants need not be present to receive an award.
