Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education holds December 18 meeting

The Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education held a meeting on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 6:30 p.m.

Public Forum: NYSSBA Winter Law Conference Report – J. Dunn

The Board of Education took the following action:

• Approved the Minutes of December 4, 2012 regular meeting.

• Approved the Warrants and Claims.

• Approved the Treasurer’s Monthly Report for November 2012 as presented.

• Approved the Board Policies: 002.3 – Officers; 002.3.5 School Attorney; 003.0 Power and Responsibilities of the Board.

• Approved the Committee on Special Education Recommenda-tions.

• Approved the recommendation of the Course Credit Committee to approve the Education Course Credit Request as submitted by Brad Donovan

• “Economics for Leaders” for three credits

• “Economics of Disasters” for three credits

• “Science of Light (Physics)” as per TOWTA contract.

Special Topics: 

• The Board reviewed Board Policy Section 700’s.

Principal’s Report:

• The 1-Man Volleyball Team, Bob Holmes, will be coming to our school for an assembly on Friday, 12/21 @1:00 p.m.  He has a campaign entitled ‘Against the Odds’ which deals with issues such as bullying.

• The 15 week marking period ended Friday, 12/14 with reports going out to families this week in the mail on Friday, 12/21.

• There have been 22 observations of teachers done so far this year.

• The Holiday Ball took place on Saturday night with almost 70 students attending.  Thank you to Student Council, Jed Kinney, and all the adults who volunteered their time for making this a great night for our students.

• The choral concerts went very well on Thursday and Friday with our students performing under the direction of Valerie Gaudin.

• Mrs. Borwick and our Kindergarten class will be taking a field trip to Mr. and Mrs. Park’s home to view the beautiful holiday decorations and enjoy a few shared treats and to acquaint students with community enrichment.

The Parks have opened their home for this enrichment for many of our Kindergarten classes.

• Our first ever Holiday Collage Band Concert will take place tomorrow Wednesday, 12/19 at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium involving 6th to12th grade band students.

• Thank you to The Strand Theatre for hosting a special showing of “The Hobbit” for a field trip Friday morning on 12/21 for Ms. Parzych’s 7th grade ELA class as a culminating activity for this reading unit.

• There have been 120 student referrals handled at this point in the year.

• I hope you all enjoy the Holiday Season and take the time to enjoy valuable moments with friends and family.

Superintendent’s Report included the topics: 

• Our thoughts are with the school community of the Connecticut tragedy as well as the families and first responders.

The scope of impact of the event is truly unimaginable.

We have received several phone calls and emails asking how we are going to be dealing with this and what measures of security we have in place.

John, Andrew and I have gone over our plans and will be having further discussions as we move forward.

The State Police have sent officers to meet with each District and the local police have been invited to stop in and their pleasure.

• Reviewed the two sample policies of non-resident students to decide what route to take.

Have been in contact with another district for the memo they have regarding faculty/staff bringing their children tuition free which is part of the contract.

• The Town of Webb UFSD has had its Teacher and Principal Annual Professional Performance Review approved by the State Education Dept. meeting the requirements of the new law and allowing us to keep the State Aide projected to be withheld had we not gotten the document approved.

Thanks to all those that worked so hard to get this in place.

• Over the holiday break the auxiliary gym will be seeing repairs to its ceiling and will also have padding installed on the lower walls.

• In lieu of Administration providing a personal gift to staff members, Mr. Germer and Mrs. Swick made a donation to KYAC to support activities for our youth outside of school.

This donation will be made on behalf of the entire Town of Webb UFSD Faculty, Staff and Board.

• Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to the Board members and the school community!
