Christmas on Main Street: Entries sought for Nov. 23rd Light Parade

The Old Forge Adirondack Christmas on Main Street Committee is seeking entries for this year’s Light Parade which will take place on Friday, November 23 at 6:30 p.m.

Participants can begin lining up at the Town of Webb UFSD bus circle at 6 p.m.

The parade will head down Main Street and end at Point Park where the Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held.

Chip Kiefer, one of the parade coordinators, encourages the same spirit of participation that can be seen at the iconic Old Forge St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

“We don’t want people to think they can’t participate because they don’t have the time to pull together an ornate, lighted float.

Our goal is to brighten up Main St. in a procession of lights and let the spirit of the holiday shine. And much like the St. Paddy’s parade—the zanier and more imaginative the better,” Kiefer said.

A traveling trophy will be awarded to the most festive holiday- themed entry, and according to Kiefer, this year’s parade will honor the memory of Kirsty Sutherland, a member of the Adirondack Christmas on Main Street Committee who passed away earlier this fall.

Once the parade reaches Point Park, holiday music will be provided by the Cast In Bronze Carillon Bells performer and there will be photo opportunities with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Registration for participation is not required, however more information is available by calling Kiefer at (315) 369-3811 or Sharon Finkle-Kleps at 369-3105.
