Webb school hosting annual Columbus soccer tournament

The Town of Webb School will host the annual Columbus Day Invitational Soccer Tournament from Friday, October 5 through Sunday, October 7.

The weekend kicks off on Friday for Webb students with parade float judging in front of the school at 3:15 p.m.

The parade will begin at approximately 3:30 p.m. and will proceed north on Main Street.

The theme of this year’s parade is Fairy Tales and will feature floats created by students in grades seven through twelve.

A balloon release in memory of Craig Sears and Matt Girouard will take place at the Old Forge lakefront at 4:30 p.m.

A bonfire and introduction of the Webb soccer teams is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the North Street Field with the annual alumni game beginning at 7:45 p.m. Participating in this year’s tournament are teams from Northwood Academy of Lake Placid, Bolton, Johnsburg, and Indian Lake/Long Lake.

On Saturday at 1 p.m., the Indian Lake/Long Lake girls’ team will take on the Bolton girls. At 3 p.m., the Johnsburg boys’ team will play the boys from Indian Lake/Long Lake.

Then, at 5 p.m. the Town of Webb girls will play against Northwood Academy. The 7 p.m. game pits the Webb boys against Northwood.

The consolation games will be held on Sunday with the girls’ game starting at 1 p.m. and the boys taking the field at 3 p.m.

The girls championship game will be played at 5 p.m. and will be followed by the boys championship game at 7 p.m.

Admission to the soccer tournament is $2 for adults and $1 for students. Refreshments will be available for purchase at the George T. Hiltebrant Pavilion throughout the weekend. In case of inclement weather, the games will be rescheduled for Monday, October 8 at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., and 4 p.m.
