Old Forge Farmers Market opens next Friday: New faces, services

The Old Forge Farmers’ Market will open for the season on Friday, June 29 at 2 p.m., and according to CAP-21 Executive Director Nick Rose, visitors to this year’s market will see some pleasant additions of services. Most of last year’s vendors will be returning, he said, and there will be some new vendors too.

Also, Rose announced, that through New York State Agriculture and Markets, CAP- 21 was able to secure a grant that allows for a partnership between Community Transportation Services (CTS) and the Farmers’ Market. As a result of the grant, he said, transportation by the CTS van will be provided to community members on market days. This, he hopes, will encourage those without transportation to come and enjoy the market.

Also new to the market this year will be a sitting area, and benches will be scattered around so folks can take a load off while shopping.

The market will offer locally grown and made products including: flowers, wine, honey, produce and heirloom tomatoes, baked goods, maple products, goat cheese, and red tail venison.

Reed Proper, the new market assistant, will be on hand throughout the season to help Market Manager Kelly Hamlin with the needs of customers and vendors.

As in year’s past, food vouchers will be available through the local food pantries and all profits raised in the market will go back to the Community Food Pantries.

The Old Forge Farmers’ Market is located on Park Avenue behind the Old Forge Hardware and is open on Fridays through October 15th.
