First Friday Art Walks get underway June 1st in Old Forge

The first of the seasonal series of First Friday Art Walks in Old Forge will take place on June 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. All are invited to visit participating local galleries and businesses that will be showcasing the art work of local and regional artists.

The Art Walks will run through October.

A pocket map that includes the locations of Art Walk events will be available at the participating businesses and at the Old Forge Visitor Information Center prior to the event.

Participating in the June 1 Art Walk are:Gallery 3040, 3040 Main St. – Cure the Art Ache…Enjoy wine, appetizers and music by Jim and Bonnie Tracy while browsing the gallery of more than 30 new paintings in oil, pastel and watercolor. The Gallery Store will be open and features dozens of new handcrafts in glass, ceramics, wood and metal.

Dragonfly Cottage & Vintage Marketplace, 2987 Main St. – Join us for our Grand Opening Celebration! Meet some of our  contributing artists and craftsmen and browse the many antiques, vintage treasures, and handmade gifts.

Patti’s Paper Craft Studio, 2991 Main St. – Kathy Riehle will be displaying her Artist Trading Cards (ATC) and will demonstrate her craft. The public is invited to make a trading card of their own.

Stick Candles, 3278 State Route 28 – Artist Thea Martin  will offer live demonstrations on how to make a Bottle Garden. Also, candle pouring demos,  music, and refreshments and beverages.

View, 3273 State Route 28 – Participate in a gallery scavenger hunt and win prizes for your effort. Currently on display in the galleries are the 8th Annual Northeast National Pastel Exhibition, “Red, White, and Blue” assemblages by Gary Kollberg, “Hazards” Ceramic Sculpture by Julia E. Dean, and “The Adirondack Kids: Artwork from Gary and Justin VanRiper’s beloved Children’s Book Series.

Old Forge Library, 220 Crosby Blvd. – Opening reception for exhibit, “Meet the Adirondack Pastel Society” featuring the work of pastel artists from around the Adirondack region.

Wrap City ‘N Glue, 3071 Main St. – Live music on the deck with Terren Waranis and Mike Salsbury.

Starving Artists Gallery, 3071 Main St. – Stop by and view the vast display of pottery, photography, jewelry and other works of art created by area artists.

Five Corners Café, 3067 Main St. – An exhibit of acrylic paintings of horses by local artist Mike Farmer. Wine and cheese sampling.

Ozzie’s – Local Native American artist, carver and storyteller Andrée Newton will demonstrate the craft of totem pole carving and gourd art.

Holly Woodworking, 3286 State Route 28 – Artist to be announced.

Sisters Bistro, 3046 Main Street – Artist to be announced.
