Town of Webb art students open multi-media show at View

Approximately 100 works of art by students in Robert Fountain’s art classes at the Town of Webb School are on exhibit at View.

The works include Studio Art, Drawing-Painting, Independent Art, Ceramics, Digital Photography and a few select works of seventh graders.

Lizzie Riehle’s graphite pencil drawing, “Tonight We Are Young,” was awarded Best in Show by the audience attending the Opening Reception on Saturday, May 5th.

“The show was an incredible success. I thank View, the parents, artists and all of the volunteers that helped make this show excellent,” Fountain said.“The students and myself are proud of the work that we were able to share with the community over the past two years. It’s a pleasure working with these creative kids. I will especially miss this year’s seniors, but look forward to helping current students develop into talented artists,” he added.

The drawing of one of Fountain’s senior art students, Jessica Menges, has been selected as one of six works to represent the 24th Congressional District of NYS at Munson Williams Proctor Art Institute/ Pratt School in Utica. The judging of the six works will take place on Saturday, May 12th.

The drawing, “Dono,” is of high school math teacher Brad Donovan. It was entered in an earlier competition held at Cogar Gallery at Herkimer County Community College.

“Jessica’s piece will be of great interest to the audience and the judges. She is tremendously talented and her work is among the best I’ve seen,” Fountain said.

If her portrait drawing is selected as the winner of the regional Congressional Show it will hang in the Nation’s Congressional Office in Washington, DC for one year.

The Student Art Show will be on display at View until Sunday, June 3rd.
