Postmark Cancellation Event to Commemorate Mail Boat Service

In commemoration of the 110th anniversary of mail boat service on the Fulton Chain of Lakes, the Old Forge Post Office will issue a special postmark cancellation event on Monday, July 25.

Postal personnel will set up a temporary post office under a tent at the Old Forge Lake Cruises boat dock, from noon to 3 p.m. on July 25.

The postal clerk will apply the postmark to any item bearing first-class postage.

The Town of Webb Historical Association will offer a special envelope and post card stamp “cache” with a special hand cancellation.

The cost is $5 per envelope and $3.50 for the post card.

Mail orders for the special caches can be placed by writing the Town of Webb Historical Association, P.O. Box 513, Old Forge, NY 13420.

Include a check or money order for the number and type of cache being requested plus an additional $1 for postage and handling per order.

The order will be sent by return mail in another envelope. Mail order requests must be postmarked no later than August 25, 2011.

Proceeds will help support exhibits in the Goodsell Museum of the Historical Association. More information is available by calling (315) 369-3838 or email: director@webbhistory.org.
