Webb: Hockey rink on ice till next season

Clark Lubbs, an employee of Mountainman Outdoor Supply Company, visited the Town Board Tuesday at its monthly meeting to present the idea of John Nemjo, his employer, for creating a venue for hockey in the Town of Webb.

He said he was seeking direction and suggestions from the board for a collaborative approach, the goal being to bring hockey back to Old Forge.

First, Lubbs said John Nemjo was offering to lease his parking lot on the Thendara stretch to the town for one dollar.

In addition, Lubbs acknowleged insurance and infrastructure needs.

Next would be the task of transforming the lot into a rink that would be suitable for hockey.

All parties acknowleged that the endeavor would not be ready for the current winter season.

As for next season, Councilman Kate Russell and Councilman Richard Risley expressed a desire to potentially return hockey play to the pavilion on North Street.

Councilman Mike Ross said he was pleased the board would have the summer to spend before making a final decision as to an appropriate venue.

The board acknowleged its appreciation to Clark Lubbs and John Nemjo for affording the town the Mountainman Outdoor site if needed.
