Get hooked: Inlet Historical Society to host 2nd Annual Bass Derby

by Adele Burnett

The Inlet Historical Society is proud to announce the 2nd Annual Inlet Bass Derby and the society’s role as new host for the event on Sunday, June 26th, 2016.

The Derby allows for fishing of all waters of the Fulton Chain between Old Forge Pond and Fifth Lake.

A total of up to five Legal Black Bass will be weighed in. Registration forms are available at www.InletNY.com or stop by the Inlet Information Office located in the hollow of downtown Inlet!

Registration is $110 (including the lunker fee) for your boat, with a maximum of two per team.

Pre-registration is required.

This derby is a timed, amateur only, no live bait contest.

There is one pound penalty for each minute of late return and also any fish produced at the weigh-in that is not alive.

No teams may fish the water after Thursday, June 23rd.

On Saturday, June 26th beginning at 5:30 a.m., hopeful prize winners can pick up their lunker (biggest fish of the day) weigh bags, verify their team names and boat number for the weigh board, enjoy some eye opening coffee and snacks at Woods Inn and of course gossip with each other about fishing.

Boats will be launched in order (based on their date of registration), beginning at 6:30 a.m. following a live well inspection and recording of their boat registration number.

Each boat will have a minimum of eight hours of fishing, arriving back at the Historic Woods Inn dock for weigh-in.

The public is welcome and invited to attend with cameras and cheers to support their favorite team!

Winners of the 2015 Inlet Bass Derby were Joe VanValkenberg and Trevor Tormey with a weight of 14.77 lbs. Trevor weighed in the Lunker at 5.69 lbs. and 20.25 inches.

Second place went to Jim Macisco and Dean Couchman with a weight of 12.18 lbs., and   Mike Keida and Bob Land captured 3rd place with a weight of 10.58 lbs.
