The Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks held its 16th Annual Kiwanis Winter Sports Challenge during Old Forge Winter Carnival on Saturday, February 6th.

Included in the event were the traditional fund-raising cross-country ski and snowshoe treks to raise funds for various Kiwanis children’s projects.

In addition, the Kiwanis Club, Mountainman Outdoor Supply Company and McCauley Mountain Ski Area jointly sponsored the 6th Annual McCauley Snowshoe Classic.

The winners of the Men’s 5K Snowshoe race were:

The Women’s top finishers were:

1st – Erin Rasco of Plattsburgh (29.46); 2nd – Tracey Westerlund of Lacona (34.51) and 3rd Sandy Rasco of Cadyville (35.45).

All winners were New York state residents.

The McCauley Snowshoe Classic was a 5 km trek through well-groomed cross country trails and single track forest.

“This snowshoe race was a very professional race on a course utilizing the McCauley Mountain Cross Country trails as a backdrop for one of the most beautiful snowshoe race courses in NY,”  said Bill Baumann, race director.

The race committee would like to thank Mountainman Outdoor for marketing and prize support.

They also thank McCauley Mountain Ski Area for meticulous attention to the groomed areas; the Old Forge Polar Bear Ski Club for the use of their Nordic Yurt; and the volunteers who worked to register the participants and prepare the course for the race.
