One objective of the Senior Health Activity and Recreation Program (SHARP) is to continue learning. Last Wednesday we continued our education by going to the Old Forge Library.
Cindy Beckley helped some participants learn how to use the computer to “surf the web,” look up books, and play card games.
Other SHARP participants enjoyed the comfortable chairs to read books, papers, or magazines.
Some offered helping hands to do some organizing and labeling that needed to be done. I had the pleasure of showing a woman how to send pictures through her email account.
Some senior citizens are very advanced in their technology skills.
They are able to navigate around their Smart phones and computers like pros. They are up on their social media and use it to stay connected with their family and friends.
Others are open to learning even though it can seem daunting.
SHARP will meet November 25th (the Wednesday before Thanksgiving) after all.
The program will start at noon and will be held at Lakeside Terrace.
We plan on sharing a meal together, spend some leisurely time talking and playing lively games of pitch. All seniors are invited to join us!
One program note to share: the CPR class originally scheduled for next week has been postponed until December.
SHARP is a free program offered to all independent senior citizens from Woodgate to Raquette Lake.
We meet at Niccolls Memorial Church in Old Forge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Wednesday.
Lunch during our regular Wednesday sessions is provided by the Community Health & Wellness Fund (formerly the Town of Webb Health Center Fund). For more information, call or text (315) 225-7553, or email activitiescoordinator4seniors@yahoo.com.
