Webb Board of Ed. meets; Principal Swick recaps Columbus weekend

The Town of Webb Union Free School District’s Board of Education held a meeting on Wednes-day, October 21, where it reviewed the following information and took the following action*:

Approved the Minutes of October 6, 2015 meeting.

Approved the Warrants.

Approved the September 2015 Treasurer’s Report.

Approved the Committee on Special Education Recommendations.

Approved Bronwen Keefer as Art Club Advisor for the 2015-2016 school year.

Approved the appointment of Rex Germer as Lead Evaluator of Principal and Teachers.

Approved the appointment of John Swick as Lead Evaluator of Teachers.

Approved the Audit Report for fiscal year ending June 2015.

Approved the 2016-2017 Budget Preparation Calendar.

Approved the Bus Use for Inlet Community Church.

Approved/Declared Band Instruments as Surplus.

Principal’s ReportMr. John Swick submitted the following information:

We sent home the first parent survey for the 4th and 5th grade extended day program and are beginning to receive responses.

Our Columbus Day Parade was a success with the Student Council class floats in the parade (Seniors: 1st place, Medieval Theme; 8th Grade: 2nd place, Wild West Theme; 9th Grade: 3rd Place, Birth of Rock and Roll Theme).

The Varsity Club alumni soccer game and the first annual David R. Leach Memorial Columbus Day Soccer Tourna-ment, was a success under the direction of their advisor, Ms. Brownsell, and Athletic Director, Todd Luther.

The Junior class ran the concession stand under their advisor, Mr. Best. The boys’ Varsity took 2nd place while the girls’ Varsity took 3rd place in the tournament.

The PTC hosted the Book Fair in our school library for three days (10/14-10/16) and a Parent/Student Evening on Thursday, 10/15 from 5-7.

Our bi-annual evacuation drill took place on Thursday, 10/8, with the help of the Town of Webb Police, Old Forge Fire Department and St. Bartholo-mew’s Church.

Our first 5 week progress reports were emailed on 10/16 to all parents.

Our 3rd–5th grade students had an assembly entitled, “The Golden Rule” on Friday, 10/16.

Our Title I parent meeting took place tonight at 6pm in the Distance Learning Lab.

The Town of Webb UFSD were encouraged to wear blue shirts in unity to stop bullying and cyber bullying as a part of the “World Day of Bullying Prevention.”

The eighth grade computer class was engaged in an anti-cyber bullying unit that required students to use a variety of technology in order to campaign for the cause.

Students were able to use Google Drive to create, share, edit, and present their lobbying efforts in the form of an email, a school-wide announcement, original posters, and speeches.

Superintendent’s Report

Editor’s Note: Due to the volume of important community topics discussed by Mr. Rex Germer, the Superintendent’s Report is being presented this week as a standalone article on Page 9. 

The next Board of Educa-tion meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in the library of the school.
