Janet Knapp, 87, passes away

Janet Knapp obit photoJanet Knapp passed away August 28, 2015 after a long battle with cancer, at her home in Old Forge with loved ones at her side. She was 87.

Janet was born in Glen Cove, NY to Marion and Harold Knapp.

She is predeceased by brothers Bruce Knapp and Dwight Knapp, sister-in-law Jet (Jeannette) Knapp and long time friend Ellie Lynch.  

She is survived by her spouse, Pauline Wohn, with whom she shared her life for 33 years (married for two years); her sister, Nancy Parker, and brother-in-law, Bob Parker, of Ohio; her brother, Blair Knapp, and sister-in-law, Charlotte Knapp, of Maine; and nine nieces and nephews, including Sue Knapp of Syracuse, Old Forge and North Fort Myers, with whom she was very close.

She also leaves behind many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Janet graduated from Watertown High School in 1946 and Syracuse University in 1950, where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.

She joined Lincoln Bank in 1950, which eventually became Chase Bank, and retired in 1985 as Regional Vice President for Human Resources.

During her working years, Janet was active in a number of community service and civic organizations including membership in the Zonta Club of Syracuse, Administration Management, Board of Planned Parenthood, Board of Girl Scouts of the USA, Advisory Board of the New York State Human Rights Commission, Personnel Committee of United Way and Board of Governors American Institute of Banking.

Janet loved the Adirondacks and enjoyed her camp in Bald Mountain Colony on Third Lake in Old Forge, NY for over 50 years.

She spent her winters in North Fort Myers, FL for the last 18 years.

She enjoyed reading, canoeing, hiking, skiing and biking and belonged to a band in her Florida community where she played the clarinet through 2014.

A celebration of Janet’s life will be held at a future date.
