Old Forestport Days festivities slated for Saturday, August 29

Old Forestport Days, a community day-long event that celebrates the downtown area of Forestport and the town’s 145th birthday will be held on Saturday, August 29,  rain or shine.

The focus of the festival, now in its 10th year, is to provide food, fun and festivities to kids of all ages in the area. 

Some of the featured events throughout the day include the Firemen’s Chicken BBQ at noon and an Indoor Garage Sale at the Fire House.

There are plenty of bargains at St. Patrick Church Thrift Shop and the Presbyterian church, as well as the Town-Wide Garage Sales.

Beginning at 1 p.m.,  Forestport Volunteer Firemen will host their 5th annual Water Ball Contest at the firehouse.

There will be music compliments of Doug Altrock’s DEA at the Firehouse Beer Garden.

Tickets will be available for a raffle of one ton of pellets (1st prize) and a CharBroil gas grill (2nd prize.) The drawing will take place at approximately 4 p.m.

The Annual Slow Pitch Softball Tourney and BBQ will be held at the Dutch Hill Field.

The tournament will start on Friday evening and a champion will be declared on Saturday evening.

A Meatball Madness cooking contest will be held at Scooter’s. This 7th annual contest is coordinated by Clare Rieben and all entries should be dropped off by 1 p.m. for judging.

A Pet Contest will be held at 12:30 p.m. and there will be a visit by a Model T Car Club.

A Zumba® for Kids of All Ages Dance Party will be featured in the Kids Fun Zone at 2 p.m., along with games organized by Girl Scout Troop 2.

There will be Horse Drawn Wagon Rides throughout the town and up by the ballfield. The rides are sponsored by C & R Hardware.

Kickball and volleyball games will be held at Scouten Memorial Field.

And if you want to have more fun, don’t miss the 9th Annual “Anything BUT a Soap Box Derby” coordinated by John and Ann Mason and family. The action gets underway at 3 p.m. on the River Street course.

Saturday’s entertainment also includes live music by Monkey & the Crowbar beginning at 7 p.m. at Scooter’s

The festivities will end with a town-sponsored fireworks display over the Forestport Pond at dark by Majestic Fireworks.
