The annual Big Moose Community Chapel Bazaar will take place—rain or shine—on Saturday, August 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Chapel, which is located five miles west of Eagle Bay on Big Moose Road.

Family entertainer Fritz Henry will perform two free shows at 10:45 a.m. and noon behind the Chapel lakeside.

Henry’s fun and interactive performances have entertained children of all ages in and around the Adirondacks for many years.

His two sets will include classic children’s songs as well as sing-along originals and folk and pop classics for the young at heart.

The Chapel is celebrating 84 years of worship in the Adirondacks, and the bazaar is known for offering unique Adirondack and holiday crafts, “moosey” items of all sorts, and the aromatic balsam pillows which are created at the Balsam Bee held a week before the bazaar.

Two new balsam pillow designs debut this year—a pack basket and a waterlily—with artwork by Big Moose and Jamesville, NY, artist Karen Schunck.

Traditionally the pillows sell quickly, so bazaar-goers are urged to come early.

“Craggy Mountains,” a queen-size quilt made and hand quilted by the local Pointed Pine Quilters, will be raffled at the bazaar.

Raffle tickets may be purchased the day of the bazaar or at the Chapel between Sunday services up until the bazaar date.

Back by popular demand are Big Moose Lake and Twitchell Lake glassware and ADK Girl moose pottery.

The bazaar is family-friendly (no pets, please—one moose is enough) and has something for everyone: a bake sale featuring homemade fruit pies, silent and Chinese auctions, a Christmas table, garden and plant booth, Chapel items, and one-of-a-kind Big Moose clothing for children and adults.

Tours of the Chapel are given throughout the day, while fun and games for children of all ages, including toddlers, are on the Chapel lawn lakeside with lots of prizes.

And with it’s usual Adirondack hospitality, the Hungry Moose Café will feature plenty of good food and lots of seating under the pines.
