Charlie Herr to lead Big Moose Landing historical program on Tuesday, July 21

Charlie Herr will present a program, Big Moose Landing, at Big Moose Community Chapel on Tuesday, July 21 at 7 p.m.

The presentation is one in a  series of historic programs sponsored by the Town of Webb Historical Association.

Before the automobile, the railroads and the steamers, those who traveled from “the Forge” to Big Moose Lake disembarked on the north shore of Fourth Lake at a location known as Big Moose Landing.

Guides, with their sportsmen, would usually head for Elba Island and bear north towards the landing and a footpath that became known as Carry Trail. Find out how Becker’s Hotel, Moss Lake and Dart’s Lake are linked.

Herr, a history buff, has had a camp at Limekiln Lake since 1983.

He writes a local history column for The Weekly Adirondack, most of which appear on Adirondackalmanack.com.

He was the first president of the Inlet Historical Society and is presently the organization’s membership chair.

He has worked at the Goodsell Museum and for the past eight years has been a seasonal employee at the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake.

More information is available by calling the Goodsell Museum at (315) 369-3838.
