Area Catholic church volunteers conducting parishioner census

The Catholic parishes of St. Bartholomew’s in Old Forge and St. Anthony of Padua of Inlet and Raquette Lake will be conducting a door-to-door census to seek out the needs of current parishioners.

The census is the fulfillment of Bishop Terry LaValley’s diocese-wide envisioning plan to reach out and listen to active parishioners, and to attract inactive members.

Given the seasonal nature of the communities of Old Forge, Inlet and Raquette Lake, the home visitations were scheduled for two separate time periods.

The first of the visitations took place in June and the second round will be conducted from July 19 through August 8.

Volunteer census-takers will wear identification tags to verify their affiliation with either of the parishes.

Bishop LaValley reminds parishioners that the census is neither a recruiting or converting effort, and asks that the census takers be treated with kindness as the door-to-door visitations are not an easy task.
