Old Forge/Thendara Shuttle ready to roll on June 18th

shuttlepicThe Old Forge/ Thendara Shuttle is scheduled to start on June 18, 2015, with two ADA compliant shuttles in service, according to Nick Rose, executive director of CAP-21.

Rose has been working in recent weeks on the local logistical aspects of the shuttle service, along with Town of Webb Publicity Director Mike Farmer.

The Shuttle will operate Thursday through Sunday until September 6.

Hours of operation and routes are being finalized by Herkimer County and Herkimer/Oneida County Transportation Study (HOCTS), according to Rose.

“Essentially the shuttles will operate free of charge between Van Auken’s Inne and Hollister’s Trading Post, with scheduled side trips to McCauley Mountain,” he said.

A full shuttle loop with 14 stops is expected to take about 40 to 45 minutes.

“Hopefully with two shuttles in service; any wait times should be minimized,” Rose said.

Schedules, route information, maps and bus stop signs will be available within the next two weeks, Rose added.

“There will definitely be stops at Shuttle business sponsors, which include VIEW, Van Auken’s Inne, Hollister’s Trading Post, and Mountainman Outdoor Supply,” he said.

Primary sponsors for the Shuttle service are Herkimer County, the Town of Webb and the Central Adirondack Association (CAA).

“Herkimer County has signed a Memorandum of Under-standing with CAP-21, which will serve as the fiscal administrator for local match on this project,” Rose said.

The service is being made available to visitors and locals alike to provide convenient transportation and reduce traffic and parking congestion during the busy days of summer.

“Be on the lookout for our new Shuttle service, and take a ride for free,” Rose said.
