VIEW welcomes all to annual Neighbor Day

VIEW, the Old Forge arts center, will host its annual Neighbor Day on Sunday, June 7, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event offers the opportunity to area residents and visitors of all ages to discover or rediscover everything that VIEW has to offer.

Galleries will be open for your viewing, activities and crafts for all, demonstrations, plein air painters, information on the various clubs at VIEW, chicken BBQ, Zumba®, poster sale, 2015 Adirondack National Exhibition of American Watercolors poster signing by the artist Roland Stevens, and special appearances by River, Vicky Brazell’s miniature horse, and Liam the goat and Bing the donkey, of Anne and Rod Phinney’s Moose River Farm.

The Meyda Tiffany and Lighting Creative Arts Wing will host a number of demonstrations including basket weaving with Barbara Green of Green House Basketry,  Raku pottery with Dennis DeStefani of Dragon’s Den Pottery, stained glass with Carl Cuccaro, and hand-building and wheel-thrown pottery.

David Hazard, Founder of Ascent and Art*iculation™, VIEW’s Writing Program, will be leading a 1 p.m. lecture for writers, Success at Publishing and Self-Publishing.

The workshop will offer insider information on the rapidly-changing world of publishing, and help writers understand how to become successful in publishing.

Art*iculation™ is a writing program designed for VIEW, training writers to give voice to their creative writing aspirations as led by Hazard, an internationally known writing coach and bestselling author. Art*iculation™ authors who began with these workshops have on ational and international recognition or become regular columnists with regional or national publications.

On view in the galleries is the Central Adirondack Art Show, featuring the paintings, sculptures, carvings, and collages of over 200 artists.

Town of Webb School art students, under the direction of teacher Robert Fountain, will present their annual exhibition that includes over 100 works of art. A public reception for the young artists will be held from 1 to 3 p.m.

Also on view is Better Homes & Feeders, a multi-media exhibit featuring a collection of outdoor/indoor innovative birdhouses and bird feeders.

Other exhibits located throughout the building include: Susan Luther Kiesel: Wild Wings; Ed Williams: Wildlife; Denis Defibaugh: Afterlives of Natural History; Abraham Ferraro: FRAGILE! Handle with Care; and Pastels and Photography by Paula Ann Ford and David Patterson.

North Woods Lodge Masons and Dewey-Old Forge Order of the Eastern Star will host a chicken barbeque. Hot dogs, drinks, and cookies will be sold by Town of Webb School Kiwanis Key Club. Proceeds will benefit these organizations.
