Meet children’s book Author & Illustrator at Old Forge Hardware

The Old Forge Hardware, at the busy corner in Old Forge, will be holding a Meet the Author book signing on Sunday, May 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The featured book, The Legend of the Painted Turtle, is a children’s book written and illustrated, respectively, by brothers Jeffrey Blake Maher and Joshua Maher.

The book was inspired by their work at one of Paul Newman’s Serious Fun Camps for children battling serious medical conditions, The Painted Turtle, located in California.

The book tells the story of a brave little shell-less turtle  and of his colorful adventures as he searches for a place to call home.

The story has been a perennial favorite told around the campfire for the thousands of children who have attended The Painted Turtle.

A portion of the proceeds of the book sales will support tuition to the camp for ailing children.

Jeffrey and Joshua are the sons of Sandra and James Maher, long-time summer residents of the Old Forge area.

Throughout their formative years, the brothers worked at a number of landmark institutions in the community, including the Old Forge Beach, The Enchanted Forest, and The Farm Restaurant.

The family currently owns a home on Otter Lake.
