The historic Buffalo Head restaurant in Forestport closed on short notice last fall, but announced plans to reopen in the spring. Now those plans are off, with the restaurant up for sale and in need of a new owner.
Town of Forestport Supervisor Parker Snead said he hopes, for the sake of a smooth transition, that one emerges soon.
“We need that establishment open. It is an anchor for the local economy in that it draws tremendous numbers of people to Forestport. It employs about 35 people locally and has a great ripple effect on other businesses in the area,” he said.
The business is listed with Gateway Properties in Alder Creek, according to Snead. The selling price is $425,000.
The restaurant sits alongside the tracks, up the street from the old Forestport train station. It got its name in the 1920s, according to Snead.
The local economy needs stability, Snead said. “When investment happens, the whole town benefits. It creates jobs and stabilizes the community. It allows people to stay locally and raise families,” he said.
“The restaurant will be a great opportunity for the right buyer. It’s a staple in the community; a legend. It has the customers and the loyal following. It needs to be reopened,” he said.
