Town of Webb Senior Kayln Olney, 18, has lived in Woodgate all her life.
She started at Webb school in 5th grade. Prior to that, she was homeschooled.
She has narrowed her college choices to include Sienna or Utica College to study Criminal Justice.
“I want to eventually become a [Department of Environ-mental Conservation] DEC officer, and I need a degree in Criminal Justice for that, ” she said
“I always wanted to work with nature, animals—anything involing that—and searching for missing people,” she said.
Kayln said she plans on returning to the area in the future.
She doesn’t have a favorite class. “I likes them all the same,” she said.
Mr. Cunningham and Mr. Kinney are her favorite teachers.
“They are very outgoing and laid back. They get to know your individual personalities. It’s not like talking to a stranger,” she said.
Kayln is a member of the Webb varsity soccer, softball and volleyball teams.
“Softball is by far my favorite sport,” she said.
She has studied clarinet, as well.
Kayln is currently her class president.
Outside of school, she plays indoor soccer in Utica.
She said she likes to be outdoors trapping, fishing, hiking, and boating.
She also enjoys cross-country skiing.
Kayln’s favorite music is country and modern pop.
Don and Alesia Olney are her parents. Alesia takes care of their chickens and goats.
Don is retired from the Army and the Air Force.
She has three brothers, Mike, Brandon, David and Don, and three sisters, Christine, Sherry and Dana.
Kayln’s biggest influences are her brothers, David and Mike. David is a New York State Trooper, who lives in Whitesboro.
“Mike talks to me all the time, and he gets me motivated and points me in the right direction for success,” she said.
She said her favorite memory is Columbus Day weekend.
“Soccer season is my favorite time of the school year. The whole community gets involved. I’m going to miss that the most,” she said.
Kayln said she is looking forward to graduation, but she will miss Old Forge.
“I’m going to miss the close-knit community. Everyone knows everyone, and everyone is so nice to each other,” she said.
This summer, she said she plans to work for the Historical Society in Old Forge. “I’m excited, it sounds really fun,” she said.
“I want to make the best of this summer, since it’s my last before I am out on my own,” she said.
