Town of Webb senior Alexcia LaFountain, 17, moved with her family to Old Forge from Port Leyden when she was a baby.
She has narrowed her college choices to SUNY Oneonta, SUNY Morrisville and Onondaga Community College (OCC).
“Oneonta is my top pick,” she said.
Alexcia is planning to study Food and Restaurant Admini-stration.
The field is challenging, and one she will enjoy, she said.
Her favorite class is economics with her favorite teacher, Mr. Kinney.
“He is very laid back, understanding and nice to everyone,” she said.
Alexcia has been a member of Webb’s varsity soccer and volleyball teams. “Soccer is my favorite,” she said.
She is also a member of senior chorus.
She is the Varsity Club Treasurer and the Secretary of Student Council.
She is also a member of Key Club and the Yearbook Staff.
Outside of school, she likes to go snowmobiling, shopping, skiing, hiking, and hanging out with her friends.
Alexcia doesn’t have too many hobbies, she said, but she likes to work and earn money.
This summer, she said she plans to waitress in Old Forge before heading to college.
“I like all music, but my favorites are pop and country. And I like to be out on the lakes boating in the summer,” she said.
Alexcia’s parents are Amber LaFountain of Old Forge and Tim Walsh of Sauquoit.
Tim is an automobile salesman and Amber works at Helmer’s Fuel.
Alexcia cites her mother as a major influence.
“She keeps telling me to keep working for what I want—don’t quit,” Alexcia said.
Alexcia said she has noticed the summers getting increasingly more enjoyable, particularly the last one. “It was just memorable, a lot of fun,” she said.
Alexcia said she is looking forward to graduation, but that she expects to miss Old Forge.
“I will mostly miss being friends with everyone and being able to walk down the street and know everyone,” she said.
She will also miss her cat, Abigail.
Alexcia said her immediate plan after graduation is to work a lot, enjoy summer, and prepare for college.
