North Country Earth Day set

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has announced that North Country Earth Day will be held Saturday, April 18 at the New York State Zoo at Thompson Park in Watertown.

Interactive exhibits will be hosted by the Development Authority of the North County, Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Black River Chapter of the Adirondack Mtn. Club, and others.

There will be a day full of games and activities designed to educate and inspire people of all ages. Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl  will greet young people, there will be free trees, Passport for kids to fill out for a prize, plus an opportunity to donate and recycle your old clothes and textiles.

Highlights of activities and exhibits include:

·         Textile (Clothing) Collection sponsored by the Development Authority of the North Country and the Rescue Mission;

·         Free tree seedlings and forestry games/information by DEC foresters;

·         Woodsy Owl and Smokey Bear – will be on hand

·         Explore aquatic insects with DEC biologists;

·         Up close and personal visits with some zoo animals.
