Parade among Memorial Day events planned in Old Forge

The Annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony in Old Forge will be held Monday, May 30, with marchers lining up on Gilbert Street-between the Post Office and the Town of Webb School-by about 9:45 a.m.

The parade begins from the school at 10 a.m. after a wreath laying ceremony that will take place at the Memorial Stone on the school lawn.

Marchers will include the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Old Forge Fire Department and their Auxiliary, and the Town of Webb School Band.

They will proceed along Main Street, stopping briefly to place a wreath on the Memorial Stone at the Fire Hall.

After pausing to lay a wreath on the Memorial Stone at the American Legion Covey-Pashley Post 893, they will continue to Riverview Cemetery where the Memorial Day Ceremony will be held.

The Master of Ceremonies will be shared by Bill Ransom and Charlie Kiefer and the invocation and the Benediction will be conducted by Rev. Lawrence Bartel of Niccolls Memorial Church and Father Kevin McEwan of St. Bartholomew’s Church.

Guest speaker is Command Sergeant Major Terry E. Parham, Sr. , a native of Dinwiddie, VA, who has served in numerous positions during his 27 years of military service and has served two tours in Iraq.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (IOLC), Meritorious Service Medal (3OLC), Army Commendation Medal (5 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (10 OLC), Good Conduct Medal (9th AWD), National Defense Medal with Bronze Star, Iraq Campaign Medal (2 stars), and Global War on Terrorism Medal.

Command Sergeant Major Parham resides at Fort Drum with his wife, Angela, daughters Desiree and Brittany, and son, Terry, Jr.

During the ceremony there will be patriotic selections performed by the Town of Webb School Band, the Bell Choir and the Community Choir.

The parade and ceremony will be held rain or shine. All are invited to the Old Forge Fire Hall for refreshments following the ceremony.
