Local students medal in Regional Competition at SUNY Morrisville

Mary Roach, Shelby McGill and Autumn Townsend, students representing the Town of Webb School and the H. G. Sackett Tech Center of Glenfield, were among the 52 students and six advisors who participated in the 2015 SkillsUSA Regional Competition at Morrisville State College on Friday, February 27.

SkillsUSA groupThe SkillsUSA Regional Competition has been held at SUNY Morrisville for the past three years and offers students the opportunity to compete in a variety of career-related and leadership challenges.

Among the subjects of competition were: customer service, job interviews, job skills demos, prepared speech, quiz bowl, community services, advertising design, related technical math, carpentry, restaurant service, basic health care, health knowledge bowl, welding, and commercial baking.

All three local students medaled in their respective competitions. Roach, a junior, placed first in Customer Service – Vet Practices while McGill and Townsend’s team took second place in the Quiz Bowl – Visual Communications category.

The students, as well as those who scored in the top 50 percent in their respective competitions, will be attending the New York State SkillsUSA competition in April at the New York State Fairgrounds, competing against the top students from the six regions across the State.

All of the students who competed will receive $250 per semester if they decide to attend SUNY Morrisville.

SkillsUSA is a national organization that includes students, teachers and industry representatives, working together to create better leaders, and more skilled workers for America.
