Construction workers have made the finishing touches on the ice castle at McCauley Mountain, the focal point of activities for the Old Forge Winter Carnival on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, February 13, 14 and 15.
Volunteering their building skills were Mark Hannah, Dale Heroux, Gary Staab, Jeff Mahoney, Brian Schoen, Luke Langworthy, Jim Williams, Dave Kress, Tony Lawrence and the McCauley Mountain staff.
Winter Carnival will kick off Friday at 6:45 p.m. with a Valentine-themed parade up Main Street.
Due to forecasted sub-zero temperatures however, the Winter Carnival committee announced changes to the original schedule of outdoor activities.
The ice skating party at the Joy Tract Road rink that was to follow the parade has been cancelled, and the Town of Webb School Junior Class-sponsored Cardboard Sled Races will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. rather than Sunday.
The 61st Snowflake Derby on Sunday will be rescheduled for a later date. However, Saturday still promises competitions, daredevil skiing, the coronation of king and queen Stuart and MaryAnn Nelson, live music, and a community dance.
A full list of weekend activities can be found on page 16 of this paper.
