Ruth C. Laske, 93, passes away

Ruth C. Laske, 93, of St. Petersburg, FL, died January 18, 2015, at Westminster Suncoast Retirement Community.

She was born on May 3, 1921, in Milwaukee, WI, a daughter of the late Thomas B. and Ruth Strickler Lyter. Ruth married John C. Laske on December 26, 1943 in Milwaukee and he died on November 15, 2014.  

She worked as a social work for Family and Children’s Agency in Milwaukee and the American Red Cross Home Services in Chicago. She was a graduate of Carroll College in Wisconsin.

In addition to creating a warm and loving home wherever she resided, she was an outstanding hostess and an enthusiastic and effective community volunteer. She was a 50-year member of the PEO sisterhood.

She was a member of the Big Moose Chapel at Big Moose Lake, in the Adirondacks, NY, an area she visited for 60 years and dearly loved. She was a member of the Pass-a-Grill Community Church in St. Petersburg.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Quern of Evanston, IL; a son, Mark T. Laske of North Creek, NY; three granddaughters, Jena Laske, Susannah Pratt and husband, John and Margaret Atkins and husband, Charles; four great-grandsons, John Oliver Pratt, Foster Thomas Pratt, Elliot Arthur Pratt and Nicholas Jason Atkins; two great-granddaughters, Jasmine Mia Cartwright-Atkins and Ashleigh Imari Cartwright; a daughter-in-law, Patricia English and her husband, Larry and sister, Dorothy Michelsen of Pompano Beach, FL.

She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, John C. Laske; son Thomas H. Laske; and a son-in-law, Arthur Foster Quern III.
