Town of Webb senior Bryanna Lucas, 17, moved to Old Forge from Honeye Falls, NY last fall.
Bryanna said it was difficult relocating to a new school her senior year.
“I miss my friends. It’s just a big change. The grades are all mashed together in one school; it’s crazy,” she said.
Bryanna said she plans to study Culinary Arts after graduating.
She has narrowed her choices to two schools: Paul Smiths College, and Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island.
“I think it would be good for me to move on, away from New York State, and discover different territory,” she said.
“I’m also planning on minoring in finance, so I can eventually own my own business,” she said.
Bryanna said she knew she wanted to be a chef last summer when she switched from her Criminal Justice track to Culinary at BOCES.
“It was very interesting to cook for other people and see their reactions,” she said.
She is also planning to do an internship this year at Ozzie’s Coffee Bar in Old Forge.
Bryanna said her favorite class is Gourmet with Mrs. Amos.
“She shows us more than just the basics of cooking.
She lets us come up with our own recipes and different creations,” she said.
Bryanna’s favorite teacher is Mr. Cunningham.
“He’s just really great at what he does,” she said.
For sports, Bryanna plays volleyball in the winter and softball in the spring.
She said she would like to join the stage crew for the upcoming spring play, if she can squeeze it into her busy senior schedule.
She is a member of Key Club and Zucchini Club—that is like a drama club, she said.
Outside the school day, Bryanna said she works and does chores around the house.
Artistically, she enjoys drawing. “I like to capture realistic things. Flowers and things found in nature are my favorites,” she said.
Bryanna said her favorite music is contemporary pop. “Country music is big in this area; I’m still trying to get used to it,” she said.
Bryanna’s parents are Kenna Lucas of Old Forge and Steve Lucas of Virginia.
Her older brother, Kyle, lives in Virginia and serves in the Coast Guard.
She has two younger brothers, Quentin Lucas and Noah Caballero, who also attend school at the Town of Webb.
For work this past summer, she was a housekeeper at the Old Forge Camping Resort.
Bryanna cites her mother as having influenced her the most.
“She made me become independent in everything I do.
She taught me to do things on my own, rather than expect someone else do it,” she said.
