Old Forge Library: Illustration workshop slated for January 31

The Old Forge Library will hold three Illustration Instruction Workshops for school age children and adults on Saturday, January 31.

Karen Beck will lead a workshop for kindergarten through 6th grade students from 10 a.m. to  noon.

A former math and art teacher who opted to homeschool her children, Beck is currently teaching art at the Inlet Common School on a part-time basis.

Also from 10 a.m. to noon, grades 7 through 12 students will be instructed by Town of Webb School K through 12 art teacher Robert Fountain.

An active advocate of the arts, Fountain encourages his students to participate in regional art exhibits and shows.

Local artist and retired TOW School art teacher Sue Freese will lead a workshop for adults from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Freese is the author of the Paint Your Town Challenge which has been used by the Adirondack Curriculum Project; fostering public understanding, appreciation, and stewardship of the Adirondack region’s natural and cultural resources.

The Illustration Workshops are being offered in conjunction with the library’s upcoming 2015 Annual Poetry and Illustration Exhibit: Mountains and Roots.

Entries to the exhibit will be accepted from February 3 through March 3.

Participants in the workshops are not required to enter their work and exhibit entrants are not required to attend the workshops.

Registration for the workshops is appreciated but walk-ins are always welcome. Stop in or call the library at (315) 369-6008 to register.

These programs are funded by CAP-21, the Friends of the Library, and CNY/Arts.
