Funeral service held for Howard J. Weiman, 97

Howard WeimanHoward J. Weiman, 97, a longtime resident of the Limekiln Lake Road, Inlet, a well-known master carpenter in the Adirondack region and more recently of Crosby Boulevard, Old Forge, husband of the late Gloria, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where he had resided since October 2014.

He was born on May 23, 1917, on the Weiman Homestead farm at High Market, a son of Joseph and Hope Washburn Weiman. He grew up in High Market and attended a District School near Fish Creek, later attending Constableville High School, graduating with the Class of 1934.  

After that he was employed in lumbering and after purchasing a truck he was employed in pulp wood transportation from the Central Adirondacks to the Moyer & Pratt Paper Co. of Carthage and to Gould Paper Co. Lyons Falls.

On October 13, 1953, Mr. Weiman was married to Alice T. Little Scott, in Long Valley, NJ. In 1954, the couple settled in Inlet, where he lived until 2009, when Howard moved to Old Forge.

For many years Mr. Weiman was employed by Gould Paper Co. of Lyons Falls, in construction of logging roads in the Central Adirondack Mountain region. Mrs. Weiman, a native of Rochester, and active member of Church of the Lakes, Inlet, passed away on January 10, 1983.

For many years Mr. Weiman was also employed as a master carpenter and finish carpenter for Bill Payne Construction Co. of Inlet. In connection with Payne Construction Co., Mr. Weiman was employed in carpentry work at some of the Great Camps in the Raquette Lake area, and he was construction overseer of an addition to the Inlet Town Hall.

On March 3, 1984, Howard was married to Gloria (Pfluke) Newton, at the Church of the Lakes in Inlet. Gloria, a waitress at Inlet area restaurants, passed away on July 23, 2013.

Howard and Gloria’s lives were centered on their faith and their membership and service to the Church of the Lakes of Inlet, where Mr. Weiman was a member of the Church Session, the Trustees using his carpentry skills in constructing an addition to the church.

During the winter, he and Gloria attended Niccolls Memorial Church, Old Forge. He also served as an assessor for the Town of Inlet.

He is survived by one brother, Arsa W. Weiman, Constable-ville,  a step daughter and her husband, Beth Ann (Eugene) Russell, Old Forge; three sons-in-law, Spencer (Andree) Newton, Old Forge, and Brad (Cherie) Newton, Marriott, GA, and Walter Randolph, Florida, several step grandchildren;  great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Roger and step son-in-law, Walter Scott, Rochester.

His funeral was held Saturday December 27, 2014, at The Church of the Lakes, Inlet. Interment will be in the spring at Riverview Cemetery, Old Forge.
