Unlawful event leaves neighborhood without a familiar animal friend

IMG_4307******There is something missing here in our neighborhood: the true spirit of our Adirondack home. And it’s because someone decided to take away a life needlessly and illegally.

I’m referring to the regal buck who frequented our yards and woods, and at times came to greet us when we ventured outside to do necessary chores.

He was very tame, most likely because people have spoiled him with treats and handouts over time. He was very trusting, that is for sure.

My best memory of this big guy was the day I was sweeping off my back steps and sensed something behind me. It was the buck and as I held out my hand, he put his soft muzzle into my open palm and licked my hand.

No treat that day, just a sign of trust and affection.

Later I watched him as he actually groomed the spike horn buck who very often accompanied him with three or four does.

All of the residents of this upper Joy Tract are mourning one of God’s special creatures, especially because of the circumstances of the illegal hunter shooting him as he did.

At least we can be thankful that no one was hurt by errant gunshot being that we have six children living in that immediate area, let alone several dogs.

Thanks to our very vigilant neighbors, the Armendolas, who helped bring about the arrest of the violator.
