The Inlet Ambulance Corps is in need of drivers and social members and invites interested individuals to Meet and Greet informational events at the Inlet Emergency Services Building on Route 28 on Sundays, November 9 and 16 from noon to 2 p.m.
The informational gatherings will include tours of the facility, refreshments, and an opportunity to speak with members on the many ways one can assist with the volunteer service organization.
Ed Booton, an EMT, driver, and co-chair of Inlet Volunteer Ambulance Services, said there is a great need for drivers, and that potential volunteers should not be wary as the department provides plenty of driver training through its mentor program.
He said new drivers take multiple trips with a mentor during the first couple of years to get familiar with ambulance protocol and operations.
Women and men of all ages are welcome, he added.
The organization also has a void in its social members who lend a hand at benefits and area fund-raising events.
Booton said a social member basically provides a public service—you needn’t be an EMT or firefighter to join.
They work at fundraisers, such as the Eagle Bay Turkey Party and IVES Clam Bake, and have a great sense of community.
“Anyone who is generous with their time, is helping a neighbor out on the worst day of their lives,” he said.
More information about the event or how to become a volunteer is available by calling Booton at (315) 369-5228.
Inlet Ambulance Corps meetings are held the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Emergency Services Building.
All are welcome to sit in on a meeting.
