Among the items being proposed for funding in the Town of Webb’s Preliminary Budget are some decorative snowflakes that are intended for winter season installation along Main Street in Old Forge.
They will be mounted on roadside utility poles and interspersed among the winter basket arrangements that were placed for the first time last winter.
Councilwoman Kate Russell gave details about the snowflakes to the Town Board at its monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 14.
The flakes are to be mounted 15-feet from the ground, and the Board will decide whether three-foot diameter flakes are sufficient or if larger ones are necessary.
They will light up with numerous LED bulbs that are energy efficient.
Councilwoman Russell said the idea was to decorate the town for winter in a way that is welcoming, yet not exclusive to the holidays.
Councilwoman Mary Brophy Moore, pointed out that the current winter baskets, which consist of baskets with poinsettias and bows, are offered at basically no cost to the town.
The hanging baskets were essentially donated and created by Kate Russell, a result of her generosity, Moore said.
Moore said the addition of the snowflake lights should make for a pretty array during the upcoming season.
Councilwoman Russell owns Mountain Greenery, a floral provider in Old Forge.
